Stephens College is proud to welcome Dr. Scotta Morton as the Mental Performance Coach for Stars Soccer. With over a decade of experience in collegiate athletics and a distinguished background in sport psychology, Dr. Morton brings a holistic and empowering approach to athlete development.
Dr. Morton previously served as the Assistant Athletic Director of Mental Performance and Staff Development at the University of Missouri, where she led a team of mental performance coaches supporting student-athletes, coaches, and staff across 18 varsity programs. Her work emphasized personal growth, team cohesion, and mental resilience, helping athletes "think right in sport" and perform at their best under pressure.Â
A former NCAA Division I basketball player at Montana State University, Dr. Morton earned her Ph.D. in Sport Psychology from the University of Missouri in 2014, studying under renowned practitioner Dr. Rick McGuire. She is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She has been recognized with numerous honors, including the AASP Early Career Practitioner Award and the University of Missouri Chancellor’s Committee Tribute to Women Award.
In addition to her collegiate work, Dr. Morton is the founder of Go For It LLC, a mental performance coaching practice based in Columbia, Missouri, where she supports athletes and professionals in aligning their values with performance goals.
