Columbia, MO - The Stephens Stars volleyball team took on the #3 ranked Spartans of Missouri Baptist University in an AMC contest Wednesday night. After trailing for much of the first set, the Stars came out of their second timeout trailing 17-22. A tough serving run from
Isabelle Benson brought the Stars to within one, 22-23, but a Spartan block put MBU at set point, 24-22. Kills from
McKenzi Domescik-Rink combined with Spartan errors gave Stephens the first set win, 28-26. The reigning national champs were determined to take back the lead as they would go on to win sets two and three by scores of 25-14 and 25-11. Set four saw the Spartans jump out to a quick 9-4 lead, prompting Stephens to take its first timeout. The teams traded points again until Stephens took its second timeout of the set, down 15-21. Tough serving from the Spartans caused offensive struggles for the Stars, as MBU took the fourth and final set 25-17. Stephens is just the second AMC team to take a set from the Spartans this season. Further, it is the first time since 2009 that Stephens has even taken a set from the Spartans.
