Lawrence, KS - The Stephens College volleyball team traveled to Lawrence, KS to take on Haskell Indian Nations University. After a back-and-forth first set that went the way of the Stars 25-22, Stephens was able to find some consistency and took sets two and three by scores of 25-19 and 25-14. The win over Haskell marks the first time in the last six years that Stephens has beaten Haskell; the win also pushed the current win-streak to four wins, the longest winning streak for Stephens College in the last seven years.
Stephens and Haskell traded points early on in the first set before a big service run from Lee Lawson opened the Stars' lead to 12-6. Haskell was determined to fight back and did so, closing the scoring gap to just an 18-16 Stephens lead. Tough serving from both teams saw the score tied at 22-22. Out of a Stephens timeout, three Haskell errors gave the Stars the first set, 25-22. Stephens took an early lead in the second set at 11-6 before Haskell made another run and took the lead 16-15. Errors hurt Haskell and gave the lead back to Stephens as they pushed ahead and took an 18-16 lead, prompting a Haskell timeout. A tough serving run from
Mallory Polk earned the Stars the next four points and put Stephens up 22-16 before Haskell would take their second timeout. Kills by
Isabelle Benson and
Maggie Howe earned the Stars the second set win 25-19. Set three saw Stephens jump out to another lead at 9-2 before Haskell took their first timeout. The Stars continued to push their lead all the way to 20-7 before Haskell would make their final push of the match. Up 23-14, Stephens was handed the third and final set 25-14 off of two more Haskell errors; completing the 3-0 sweep.
