Columbia, MO - The Stephens Stars played host to the Cougars of Columbia College in an AMC matchup. The Cougars, who are receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, scored the first basket of the game with a 3-pointer. Stephens responded fast with its own 3-pointer from
Marveen Ross to tie the game. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter, with Stephens holding a narrow 15-14 lead going into the second quarter.
The Cougars offense got things going in the second quarter as they would shoot 40% from the field while going 6-10 at the foul line. The Stars struggled offensively and were outscored 7-15 in the quarter.
Starting the third quarter down 22-29, the Stars shot 50% from both inside and outside the three-point arc. The defensive effort from the Stars helped them outscore the Cougars 14-10 in the third, closing the Columbia lead to 36-39 heading into the fourth and final quarter. Cold shooting proved problematic for the Stars as they were outscored 19-7 in the fourth quarter, earning the Cougars the win over the Stars 58-43.
