Columbia, MO - The Stephens Stars took on the Eagles of Williams Baptist University in an AMC matchup on Saturday. The Stars came out ready to go and took control of the first quarter, charging to a 20-9 lead heading into the second quarter. Both teams were even in the second as they each scored 17 points, respectively; at the half, Stephens held a 37-26 lead.
Stephens struggled in the third as they were outscored 12-22 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Stephens held a narrow three-point lead with three seconds left on the clock. An inbounds play from the Eagles put one of their best shooters open beyond the arc and as time expired her shot went in to tie the game 66-66, sending it into overtime.
Williams Baptist held control of the game for much of the overtime period. Down by three with three seconds remaining, a three-pointer from
Marveen Ross tied the game at 77-79. An untimely foul by the Stars put the Eagles on the free throw line where they converted both shots to take the lead at 79-77. The Stars were unable to score on the last possession of the game and dropped the contest to the Eagles.
