Columbia, MO - The Stephens Stars took on the Pioneers of Crowley's Ridge College today in a non-conference doubleheader.
In game one, the Stars trailed the Pioneers 3-4 heading into the sixth inning. A double from
Lyndsey Hood to left field scored
Irissa Olveda, before a double from
Anabel Throckmorton scored Hood, putting the Stars up 5-4.
The Stars' defense stepped up in the seventh, only allowing one Pioneer to get on base. Olveda earned the last out with an unassisted putout, giving Stephens the game one win 5-4.
In game two, the Stars got on the board first after a sacrifice bunt from Throckmorton scored Hood. Heading into the bottom of the third, the game was tied 1-1. The Stars scored four times in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
Another great defensive outing in the top of the third held the Pioneers scoreless. Three more runs in the fourth pushed the Stars' lead to 8-1. In the bottom of the fifth, a walk-off single from
Maisie Billups scored
Tatianna Hawkins, which earned the Stars the run-ruled victory over the Pioneers 9-1.
