Walnut Ridge, AR - The Stephens College softball team set a new program milestone during their weekend split with the Eagles of Williams Baptist University. The Stars defeated WBU in game one by a score of 6-5 in extra innings before dropping the second game 2-8. The win marks the programs first earned victory over the Eagles (with the prior two wins being forfeits from WBU).
In game one, the Stars used four runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead over the Eagles. An error from WBU gave
Lauren Huskey the chance to score, pushing the Stars' lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles managed to score two runs to tie the game, sending it into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, a sacrifice fly from
Jaylee Garcia scored
Tatianna Hawkins, giving the Stars the narrow one-run lead. The Stars' defense stepped up in the bottom of the eighth as they made three defensive stops in-a-row to end the game.
