Game Recap: Volleyball |

Stars suffer tough five-set defeat

St. Louis, Mo. -  Stars volleyball traveled to play against AMC team, Harris-Stowe State University Hornets, and lost  (22-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-14, 11-15) in an exciting five-set match.

The Stars started off the match with back-to-back kills by right-side Rylee Collins to take the lead from the Hornets. Despite the offensive effort, at the end of set one, it was the Hornets who were able to seal the victory in a close set 22-25.

In the second set, the teams battled in a back-and-forth battle.  Emma Whitson went on a five-point service streak at the right time ensuring a Stars set victory and bringing the game back to 1-1 (25-21).

Emberlynn Kingsley and Lena Hunziker took the first point of the third set for the Stars with a double block. The Stars offense was never able to gain any momentum and the Hornets were able to secure the set, winning 19-25.

In the fourth set, the Stars responded, showed consistent play, and won in dominating fashion 25-14. Jamie Russell came to play with multiple blocks against the Hornets forcing the match to set five.

A rough start to set five forced an early time-out by Head Coach Koelling which briefly sparked the offense.  However, the effort was not enough, as the Hornets narrowly emerged victorious against the Stars with a score of 11-15.

The Stars return this Monday, October 23 on the road once more to Springfield, Missouri against Baptist Bible College at 6 p.m.
