Fayette, Mo. - Stars Basketball opened their season with a win on the road against Preseason NAIA #2 ranked Central Methodist University 86-77. The Stars showed depth offensively on the night with three players recording double-doubles.
Junior transfer guard, Mia Morel had an impressive game putting up 27 points including 11 free throws down the stretch for the Stars. Milwaukee Wisconsin native Savanna "Chu" Crockett made a significant contribution with 16 points and an outstanding 12 rebounds. Senior Guard, Marveen Ross showed her experience with 15 points including 11 free throws for the Stars. Freshman newcomer Lauren Friedrich played 34 total minutes for the Stars contributing 9 points and two blocks in her first collegiate contest. Alayasia Douglas also recorded 9 points and a team-leading 4 steals in 27 minutes of play.
"Our team fought hard overall, we talked all week about discipline, focus, and playing together," Head Coach Andre Bell states. "We know we must work to focus even more in practice to be great for the future. It was a good win for us. I am excited for the upcoming season, and to see what this team will do in the end."
