The 2022-2023 for the Stephens College Basketball Team has finally come to a close after a tough loss against Williams Baptist, which credit to them, had the Stars number.
In a back and forth game, we saw buzzer beaters, hard fouls, and a loud-proud Stephens crowd. In the first quarter, the Stars were figuring out how the Lady Eagles were setting up their defensive schemes and looking for any separation they could find. On the defensive end, the Stars needed to close out the shooters faster as they took nine three pointers compared to the Stars four. Luckily, WBU only hit three and it could have been much worse.
Heading into the second quarter, the Stars saw themselves down 8. However, they turned up the pressure and despite only going 33.3% from the field, they churned out 18 points and only allowed 6. At the end of the half, yet again we saw another buzzer beater from Alayasia Douglas giving the Stars a 5 point lead.
Once the third started, it felt like it was Williams Baptist with some fire under them and came out swinging while going 7-12 from the floor and keeping the Stars to 21.1% shooting in the third. The Stars forced a fair share of turnovers from WBU which ultimately kept the game close.
At last, the fourth quarter. The Stars struggled from the floor and saw their two starts, Marveen Ross and Tashawn Ducker foul out, which WBU took advantage of. The Stars gave it their all until the very end and ended their season with a 58-64 loss.
