Columbia, Mo. - The Stephens Stars Basketball team delivered an electrifying performance, celebrating Savanna "Chu" Crockett's impressive achievement of reaching 1,200 career points. Facing off against Harris-Stowe State University, the Stars dominated the court with a resounding final score of 102-61.
Crockett's milestone was reached in a prior game against Hannibal-LaGrange University on January 25th, and she's now set her sights on the next goal of 1,500 points with the team.
The game kicked off with the Hornets scoring the first basket, but the Stars quickly seized control, led by a layup from Marveen Ross. Aushara Hostetler added to the excitement with a buzzer-beater 3-pointer, contributing 15 points to the team's rallying momentum.
The Stars showcased an impressive offensive display, securing a solid 44-29 lead at halftime with three consecutive baskets. The second half continued the domination, as the Stars extended their lead to 24 points with four consecutive baskets.
Ross stood out with an outstanding game, sinking a 3-pointer and finishing with 17 points. Lauren Friedrich's defensive prowess forced a foul on the Hornets, resulting in a 71-44.
Alayasia Douglas intensified the excitement with a crucial 3-pointer, helping the Stars breach the 100-point mark once again within the week. Douglas showcased her all-around skills by stealing six balls from the Hornets.
Syderah Farmer narrowly missed a double-double, concluding the night with an impressive 10 rebounds and 9 points.
With this victory, the Stars now set their sights on the upcoming challenge as they hit the road to face Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis on February 1st at 5:30 pm.
