COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Stephens College volleyball team (8-13, 3-1 AMC) powered past Williams Baptist (5-15, 1-3 AMC) in a dominant three-set sweep, securing the match with scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-14.
Stephens, led by standout performances from senior Izzy Benson and junior Amari Branch-Autman, showcased an impressive offensive presence. Benson recorded 15 kills and posted a .357 hitting percentage, while Branch-Autman added 10 kills with a .318 percentage.
Fifth-year senior Jamie Russell also played a key role, recording 14 kills on 19 attempts, finishing with an outstanding .737 hitting percentage.
In the first set, Stephens set the tone early, capitalizing on a strong .379 hitting percentage and minimizing errors. Benson and Branch-Autman led the charge, securing key points to help the Stars claim the set 25-14.
The second set was more competitive, with Williams Baptist attempting to rally. However, Stephens remained composed, with timely kills from Benson and Russell, helping secure the 25-21 win despite a better performance from the Eagles.
In the third set, Stephens continued to dominate, limiting the Eagles to just 14 points and sealing the sweep in front of their home crowd.
Setter Emma Whitson distributed 41 assists in the match and kept the offense running smoothly, while libero Jatnna Pena-Perez contributed nine digs and two service aces.
The Stars will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 16, as they travel to Fulton, Missouri, to take on Westminster College at 7 p.m.
