ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Stephens volleyball team extended their winning streak, sweeping the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP) 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-20). With the win, Stephens improved to 11-14 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while UHSP fell to 3-26 (0-7).
Jamie Russell led the Stars' attack with 12 kills and a .308 hitting percentage, while Amari Branch-Autman added 10 kills, hitting .368. Setter Emma Whitson had a standout performance, racking up 39 assists, 4 kills, and a service ace.
The Stars jumped out strong in the first set, taking a commanding 17-9 lead after a kill by Lena Hunziker, assisted by Whitson. Stephens closed the set 25-15, with Russell adding another kill to finish things off.Â
In the second set, Stephens raced to a quick 10-2 lead. UHSP never recovered, and a block by Branch-Autman sealed the 25-14 set win.
UHSP kept things closer in the third set, trailing 16-12 before Stephens pulled away, courtesy of blocks from Branch-Autman and Whitson. Branch-Autman finished the match with back-to-back kills, securing the final set 25-20.
Stephens' next game is on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m., as they return to St. Louis to face Harris-Stowe State University.Â
