Stephens Sweeps Williams Baptist, Advances to AMC Semifinals

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Stephens Stars took a commanding straight-set victory over Williams Baptist on Tuesday night in the AMC Volleyball Tournament quarterfinals, winning 25-16, 25-11, 26-24 to secure their place in the semifinals for the second consecutive time in program history.

Before the match, both teams were recognized for their AMC Regular Season awards which included First and Second All-Conference teams, Champions of Character, Academic All-Conference, and Defensive Player of the Year.

In the opening set, Stephens (16-15, 9-2 AMC) established its rhythm early. Amari Branch-Autman and Madison Threlkeld powered the Stars with timely kills, aided by setter Emma Whitson, who kept the offense unpredictable.

A clutch block from Jamie Russell gave the Stars a 19-13 lead, forcing Williams Baptist into a timeout.

Stephens remained focused, closing the set with a decisive kill from Izzy Benson for a 25-16 win.

The second set saw Stephens elevate their attack efficiency, hitting .314 as a team.

Benson shined with back-to-back kills, and Madison Williams delivered a service ace, pushing the Stars to an early 8-4 lead.

The Eagles struggled to counter the relentless attacks, allowing Stephens to pull away. Whitson's flawless setup allowed Threlkeld to seal the set at 25-11.

Williams Baptist rallied in the third set, pushing Stephens to a thrilling finish. Tied at 24-24, Branch-Autman delivered a pivotal kill from Whitson's assist, giving Stephens match point.

The Eagle's attack error clinched the victory for the Stars, 26-24.
