Box Score Fulton, Mo. - The Stephens Stars Women's Basketball team demonstrated their superiority against William Woods University, securing a commanding victory with a final score of 73-46 at Anderson Arena on Saturday.
Stephens improved their impressive season record to 18-5 (13-1 AMC). Conversely, William Woods concluded the game at 12-10 (6-7 AMC). This victory marked the fourth consecutive win for the Stars over William Woods since 2022.
Mia Morel emerged as a standout performer with 21 points and 7 assists. Morel made her presence known all over the floor throughout the game. Chu Crockett (16 points and 8 rebounds) and Alayasia Douglas (10 points) both made significant contributions to the scoreboard. The Stars displayed another efficient shooting game at 43.8% (32-73), which proved instrumental in keeping the Owls at bay.
The game began with Crockett sinking the opening basket, propelling the Stars into an early lead. However, the Owls quickly responded by seizing control and ending the first quarter with a 7-point lead at 3-7.
Despite early struggles, the Stars found their rhythm, with Zaraya March's clutch three-pointer leveling the score at the 6:19 mark. The Stars managed to regain momentum, finishing the first half with a narrow lead at 26-25.
The Stars went 60.0% (15-23) for shooting with the Owls closely behind as they shot 57.1% (12-21) in the first half.
Stephens rallied in the third quarter, launching an impressive 11-0 run at the 7:24 mark. Morel's exceptional shooting prowess, highlighted by 8-11 in the third quarter alone, propelled the team to extend their lead significantly.
Aushara Hostetler's crucial three-pointer further bolstered the Stars' advantage, stretching the lead to 30 points at 70-40.
Shaun Thomas punctuated the victory with a buzzer-beater three-pointer, confirming the Stars' dominance.
The Stars return to play on Thursday, Feb. 15th on the road in Walnut Ridge, Ark. as they take on Williams Baptist College (Ark.). Game time is set for 5:30 pm.
