Columbia, Mo. - In a chilly home opener for the Stephens College Stars Softball team in Columbia, Mo., they faced off against NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist University in a non-conference series. Despite their hopes for their first win of the season, the Stars fell short against the Bearcats.
In the opening game, the Bearcats took an early lead scoring a run due to a wild pitch. The Stars fought back when Ivy Smart's RBI brought Anabel Throckmorton home in the first inning. Avery Throckmorton then powered a solo home run in the second, briefly giving the Stars the lead. However, the Bearcats responded with multiple RBIs, reclaiming the lead in the third inning and securing the victory (2-10).
In game two the Bearcats scored three early runs and maintained their lead throughout. The Stars answered with a triple from Lyndsey Hood. The Stars managed to get on the board with an RBI from Anabel Throckmorton driving in Hood to score their first run of the game. Despite their efforts, the Stars couldn't overcome the Bearcats' lead and dropped game 2 (1-7).
With this loss, the Stars' season record stands at 0-7, while Southwest Baptist University holds a 4-4 record.
Looking ahead, the Stars will face Graceland University (Iowa) in a two-day doubleheader next weekend, with the first game scheduled for noon at Rock Bridge High School.
