Stars Softball Drops two to Graceland University

Columbia, Mo. - In a doubleheader against Graceland University at Rock Bridge High School, the Stephens Stars Softball team fought valiantly but fell short in both games.

Before the series commenced, the Stars paid tribute to first-year Head Coach Clint Poulsen for his milestone first collegiate win with a commemorative signed softball.

Game one saw Graceland taking an early lead in the first inning, but Stephens responded with Avery Throckmorton's RBI in the second inning, bringing the score to 1-4. Despite the Stars' efforts, Graceland continued to extend their lead, although Stephens managed to add another run courtesy of Mariah Thibodeaux and Jordan Watkins. The final score of game one stood at 2-6 in favor of Graceland.

In the second game, Graceland once again seized an early advantage, prompting Stephens to fight back. Avery Throckmorton was able to score and narrow the gap, but Graceland's strong offensive display in the fourth inning widened the Yellowjackets lead considerably. Stephens rallied in the fifth inning with Gillian Hale and Celeste Athon crossing the plate, but it wasn't enough to overcome Graceland's lead, resulting in a 3-13 defeat for the Stars in five innings.

The Stars return to the field for a two-day series against Clarke University at Rock Bridge High School on Sunday, March 3rd, and Monday, March 4th with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
