Stephens Stars Basketball Named Conference Regular Season Champions

Columbia, Mo. - The (RV) Stephens College Stars Basketball team has made history yet again. The Stars' unprecedented journey to the championship was marked by a series of commanding performances throughout the season, culminating in an impressive victory over Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.).

Stephens took the lead early in the first quarter 26-11 and continued to outscore the Hornets in the second quarter 27-9, before almost doubling the score at the half (53-20). Alayasia Douglas made a buzzer-beater 3-pointer to close up the third quarter (79-37). The Stars did not let up, widening the gap significantly by the end of the game (100-52).

With that victory, the Stars' commanding 16-2 conference record garnered them the 2024 regular season American Midwest Conference (AMC) championship title.

This monumental achievement marks a significant milestone for the program. Not only have the Stars been named conference champions for the first time in program history, but the (RV) Stars Basketball team has also been nationally ranked all season for the first time in program history.

"This season has been about more than just basketball; it's been about cultivating a culture of perseverance, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to excellence," stated Head Coach Andre Bell. "These exceptional athletes have reshaped the identity of Stephens Stars athletics, turning aspirations into tangible success through sheer determination and hard work."

This is an exciting time for our team, as they are advancing to the AMC tournament for only the second time in program history. With a stellar performance this season, they have earned the co-champion title alongside Columbia College (also 16-2 in conference action), securing first place in the conference standings. Although the two local teams share the top spot, Columbia College will host the tournament at their Southwell Complex in Columbia, Mo.
