Stephens College Stars Basketball Dominates in American Midwest Conference Quarterfinal Victory

Columbia, Mo. - The Stephens College Stars Basketball team, showcased their dominance in the first round of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament presented by Tandem HR, overpowering the No. 7 seed, William Woods University, on Friday 87-48. 

Maintaining their impressive winning streak, the #2 seeded Stars elevated their season record to 22-6, with a remarkable 17-2 standing in the AMC. With this victory, the Stars extended their flawless record against William Woods University to three wins this season.  

In a dazzling display of skill, in front of a tremendous Stephens College crowd, the Stars outperformed William Woods, boasting an impressive 48.5% shooting accuracy from the field. Alayasia Douglas, Mia Morel, Arthel Massaquoi, and Chu Crockett each delivered noteworthy performances contributing significantly to the scoreboard. Alayasisa Douglas had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals while Mia Morel had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. In the post, Arthel Massaquoi had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 block, and conference Newcomer and Defender of the Year, Chu Crockett had 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal.  

Taking an early lead, the Stars dominated the first quarter, outscoring the Owls 20-4. However, William Woods rallied in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 21-19. Amidst the tension at the 9:00 minute mark in the second quarter, Hostetler etched her name in the records of Stephens Basketball history by breaking the school record for the most 3-pointers made in a season. Hostetler has become the all-time leader for 3-pointers made in a season at 59.  

As a cohesive unit, the Stars showcased their defensive talent, amassing 14 steals and capitalizing on 32 points off the Owls' turnovers. Additionally, the Stars' bench proved instrumental, contributing an impressive 41 points to the team's total.  

Looking ahead, the Stars eagerly anticipate their next challenge in the AMC Semifinals, where they will face the winner of game two #3 Williams Baptist vs. #6 Cottey College. The action resumes at the Southwell Complex on Saturday, Mar. 2nd, with tip-off scheduled for 3:30 pm. The Stars aim to continue their stellar record-breaking season as they strive for championship glory in the AMC Tournament.
