WIN Every Day Seminar Empowers Girls in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Women's Intersport Network for Columbia hosted the "WIN Every Day: A Girls in Action Leadership Seminar" at Hickman High School on Aug. 22.

Melinda Wrye-Washington, Stephens College Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, participated in a panel focusing on the player-coach dynamic. The panel discussed experiences, insights, and advice on fostering positive, respectful relationships between players and coaches.

The seminar also addressed various topics critical to young female athletes, including impostor syndrome, body image and fitness, mental resilience and support, focus and movement, and social media image, risk, and awareness.

"I am honored to serve on the board for WIN for Columbia. To be able to participate and represent Stephens College on the panel was a privilege," said Wrye-Washington. "It was inspiring to interact with the talented facilitators, coaches, and especially the student-athletes from Hickman, Tolton, Rock Bridge, and Battle High Schools. Witnessing the student-athletes' commitment to leadership in their sport is empowering as they engage with key topics and learn tactics for excellence in life. I encourage others to research the WIN organization and support it by becoming a member."

Wrye-Washington was invited to be a board member after a long-standing connection with the organization. Other Stephens College legacies with the organization include Mandy Martin, the 2010 WINner's Choice Award recipient involved in equestrian, and Deb Duren, the 2010 Mentor of the Year and former Director of Athletics for 31 years.

Established in 1994 by local female leaders, WIN for Columbia is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging the participation of girls and women of all ages in athletics and physical fitness. The organization aims to support, inspire, showcase, and recognize local female athletes.
