COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Stephens College Stars (10-7, 7-4 AMC) delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, securing a 70-45 victory over Central Baptist College (7-8, 5-6 AMC) in Silverthorne Arena. The win marks the Stars' third consecutive victory.
The Stars set the tone defensively, holding the Mustangs—who average over 68 points per game—to just 45 points. Most notably, Stephens allowed only nine points in the first half, including a rare shutout in the second quarter.
Stephens' offense complemented their defensive effort with 32 points in the first half, taking a commanding 23-point lead into halftime.
Paula Puzule and Aushara Hostetler led the charge with six points apiece, all from beyond the arc. Chu Crockett controlled the boards with six second-quarter rebounds.
The Stars added to their advantage with a 20-point third quarter. Puzule and Hostetler remained red-hot from deep, each sinking two more three-pointers to push the lead to 34 entering the final quarter.
The Mustangs found some rhythm in the fourth quarter, shooting 41% from the field and 38% from three-point range, their best performance of the game. However, the Stars matched their energy, outscoring CBC 23-20 to comfortably seal the victory.
LaiJanique Perry-Ellis paced the Stars with 11 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Stephens shot 39% from the field and converted 73% of their free throw attempts in the win.
