FULTON, Mo. – A dominant fourth quarter propelled Stephens College to a 70-60 victory over William Woods University on Thursday evening in AMC play.
The Stars (7-6, 4-3 AMC) showcased depth and resilience, with standout performances from multiple players, including LaiJanique Perry-Ellis and Chu Crockett, to secure the road win. Crockett delivered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in her season debut, while Perry-Ellis led all scorers with 23 points. Syderah Farmer added 12 points and seven rebounds, contributing to Stephens' all-around performance.
Stephens came out strong, fueled by Farmer's early sharpshooting, as she nailed two three-pointers to give the Stars a quick 6-2 lead.
Crockett's energy was evident, grabbing key defensive rebounds and setting up Trinitee Alexander for a layup.
The Stars extended their lead to 20-12 early in the second quarter, with Crockett connecting on a mid-range jumper. However, William Woods responded with a 7-0 run, cutting the deficit to one.
Aushara Hostetler hit a crucial three-pointer to stabilize Stephens, who took a slim 28-26 lead into halftime.
Both teams traded baskets in a high-energy third quarter. Perry-Ellis scored five quick points, including a tough layup in transition, but William Woods stayed close, tying the game at 40-all with two minutes remaining.
Crockett's tenacious defense and a second-chance layup helped Stephens hold a narrow 44-45 deficit heading into the fourth quarter.
Stephens dominated the final frame with a 26-15 scoring burst. Perry-Ellis took over offensively, scoring 13 points in the quarter to secure the win.
