Manhattan, KS - The Stephens College volleyball team picked up a dominant straight-set victory over Manhattan Christian on Tuesday evening in Manhattan, Kansas, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-18.
Michalina Oles led the offense with 12 kills on an impressive .579 hitting percentage, while Amari Branch-Autman and Lena Hunziker each added 11 kills. Setter Emma Whitson directed the attack with 35 assists and contributed defensively with two digs.
At the net, the Stars were strong on both sides of the ball, totaling 10 team blocks. Fernanda Izar added five kills and three block assists, while Branch-Autman and Oles each chipped in two block assists.
Defensively, libero Jatnna Peña-Pérez anchored the back row with 22 digs, helping limit Manhattan Christian to a .020 hitting percentage on the night. Stephens hit .263 as a team and tallied seven service aces, three each coming from Hunziker and Peña-Pérez.
The win improves Stephens' overall record to 15-10 as the Stars continue their stretch of conference and nonconference matchups in the month of October. The Stars return to action this Saturday in another AMC Quad match facing Central Baptist College and Crowleys Ridge.Â
