Branson, MO - Stephens opened Friday's game with one of its strongest quarters of the season, moving the ball well and knocking down shots early to take a 19 to 14 lead after the first period. The Stars defended with energy, forced several turnovers, and limited MACU to 29 percent shooting in the opening frame.
The momentum shifted in the second quarter as Stephens struggled to convert on the offensive end. The Stars were held to five points in the period, and MACU moved in front with a 27 to 24 advantage at halftime. Stephens continued to generate defensive stops during the stretch but could not capitalize on the offensive opportunities it created.
MACU began to separate in the third quarter with an 18-point effort while holding Stephens to seven. The Stars continued to compete but were unable to regain their early rhythm. MACU closed the game with efficient outside shooting in the fourth quarter to extend the margin.
LaiJanique Perry-Ellis led the Stars with an all-around performance that included 18 points, seven rebounds, and eight steals while shooting 7 for 13 from the field. She scored 11 of Stephens' 19 first-quarter points and set the tone early. KaLynn Irey provided key production off the bench with nine points and four rebounds, and Elizabeth Walton added seven points and four boards.
Stephens forced 15 turnovers and received 18 points from its bench. Cold shooting from the perimeter, including a 4 for 27 mark from three, made it difficult to stay within reach in the second half. MACU finished with 20 points in the paint and 29 points off turnovers to secure the 67 to 41 final.
