Harve, MT - Stephens opened its Montana road trip on Saturday with a 74–58 result against Montana State University Northern. The Stars started well and matched the Lights early, trailing just 20–17 after the first quarter behind a 12-point opening frame from Taylor Teeple.
MSUN gained separation in the second quarter, using efficient perimeter shooting to take a 39–30 lead into halftime. Stephens responded out of the break with one of its best offensive stretches of the day, shooting 50 percent in the third quarter, but the Lights continued to convert from the arc and extended their advantage to 60–47.
The Stars generated looks throughout the fourth but went 2-for-14 from the field in the final 10 minutes, allowing Northern to close it out.
Teeple led Stephens with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting, while LaiJanique Perry-Ellis added 13 points and three rebounds. Sydney Reddin finished with five points, five boards, and two assists, and the Stars got 20 points from the bench, highlighted by contributions from Marilyn Mastro, Nevaeh Sage, and Elizabeth Walton.
Stephens finished 37.7 percent from the field and picked up 28 points in the paint, while Northern shot 44 percent overall and hit 11 threes.
The Stars continue their road swing tomorrow as they face Providence in Great Falls.
