Columbia, MO - The Stephens College basketball team opened its home slate in impressive fashion on Monday night, defeating William Woods 80–59 inside Silverthorne Arena.
The Stars set the tone early, racing to a 20–6 lead after the first quarter and holding a 43–22 advantage at halftime. Stephens maintained control throughout the night, shooting 46 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc while forcing 21 turnovers.
LaiJanique Perry-Ellis led the way with a dominant 28-point performance on 11-of-13 shooting, including a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range. She also added seven assists and six rebounds. KaLynn Irey came off the bench to score 10 points and grab nine rebounds, while Taylor Teeple finished with eight points, four boards, and two assists.
The Stars outscored the Owls 38–20 in the paint and saw strong production from their bench, which contributed 33 points.
With the win, Stephens improves to 1–2 on the season and 1–0 at home. The Stars will look to build on the momentum this weekend in Campbellsville, KY, facing #2 Bethel University and #3 Campbellsville University.
