COLUMBIA, Mo. – On a night dedicated to raising awareness for cancer research, Stephens delivered a dominant performance, securing a 97-29 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange on Tuesday evening at Silverthorne Arena. All proceeds from the night's raffle will be donated to the Children's Cancer Research Foundation Fund.
The Stars wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for 24 first-quarter points. Aushara Hostetler capped the period with a deep three-pointer at the buzzer, igniting the crowd and pushing the Stars ahead 24-7.
Stephens (16-8, 13-5 AMC) continued to pour it on in the second quarter, outscoring Hannibal-LaGrange 23-4.
Chu Crockett controlled the paint, finishing with 16 points and five rebounds, while Paula Puzule and Taylor Norris knocked down key shots from the perimeter. By halftime, the Stars led 47-11, holding the Trojans to just four second-quarter points.
The Stars shot an impressive 64.7% from the field in the third quarter, widening their advantage to 73-21. LaiJanique Perry-Ellis facilitated the offense, dishing out five assists, while Syderah Farmer and Trinitee Alexander provided strong defensive pressure, forcing multiple turnovers.
Stephens closed the game dominantly, scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter while limiting Hannibal-LaGrange to just eight.
The Stars return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 13, for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against William Woods University at home. This will be the second time Stephens Athletics is featured on KZOU – the first time for the Stars basketball program.
