Stars Close Regular Season With Road Losses at William Woods

FULTON, Mo. – Stephens College softball closed out the regular season Thursday with a pair of tough road losses to perennial AMC contender William Woods University, falling 0-11 in five innings in game one and 1-9 in five innings in game two.

The Stars finish the regular season at 15-25 overall and 9-13 in AMC play, earning the No. 8 seed in the upcoming American Midwest Conference Tournament. They'll face top-seeded Missouri Baptist in the opening round on Friday at noon in Conway, Ark.

Game 1: William Woods 11, Stephens 0 (5 Innings)

A fast start by the Owls and the Stars could not recover from an early deficit. William Woods scored three runs in the opening frame and never looked back, racking up 13 hits across four innings.

Stephens had opportunities early, including a double by Elise Kendrick in the second inning and base hits from Ivy Smart and Kyndal Vincent, but couldn't string them together. Greenlee Adams took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs in three innings, while Savannah Greathouse pitched in relief.

Game 2: William Woods 9, Stephens 1 (5 Innings)
The second game followed a similar script as the Owls used a six-run second inning to break the game open. The Stars briefly tied it at 1-1 in the top of the second when Kendrick doubled, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a ground ball from Celeste Athon.

Kendrick continued her solid day at the plate with a double and a run scored, while Vincent had a pair of hits and a stolen base. Stephens left five runners on and managed five hits in the loss. Greathouse took the loss, surrendering seven earned runs over 3.2 innings.

The Stars will shift their focus to postseason play, entering the AMC Tournament as the No. 8 seed. They'll take on top-seeded Missouri Baptist on Friday at noon in Conway, Ark. For full tournament information, visit AMC Tournament Central.
