Box Score Bethany, OK - Stephens soccer turned in a determined defensive performance on Thursday night but came up short against undefeated Southwestern Christian, falling 2-0 on the road.
The Stars stayed organized throughout the first half, weathering 12 shots from the Eagles and getting strong play from their back line and goalkeepers. Petra Brncova started in goal and made two early saves before giving way to Sofia Ramos, who played the final 65 minutes and recorded seven saves. Despite the pressure, Stephens kept the match scoreless until the final minute of the half when Southwestern Christian found the breakthrough on a close-range finish to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Stephens created chances of its own with six total shots, five of which were on target. Kylee Kratzer and Wynne Martins had looks in the second half that forced saves, while Carsyn Osborn and Eastin Colyer each put pressure on the Eagles' goalkeeper earlier in the match.
The Stars continued to hold their shape defensively in the second half, limiting Southwestern Christian to just five shots after halftime. The match remained within one goal until the Eagles added a second score in the 89th minute to secure the win.
The Stars will remain in Oklahoma for another match, this time against the University of Science and Arts at 12:00pm on Saturday, September 20th.Â
