Leavenworth, KS – The Stephens College soccer team battled back from an early deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against the University of Saint Mary on Wednesday night.
Saint Mary struck twice in the opening 25 minutes to take a 2-0 advantage, but Stephens responded before halftime. In the 41st minute, forward Moriah Carnahan converted a penalty kick to put the Stars on the board.
The momentum carried into the second half when freshman Ava Leininger came off the bench and netted the equalizer in the 65th minute, marking her first goal of the season.
Stephens recorded 10 shots in the match, including six on goal, while holding the Spires scoreless over the final 67 minutes. Goalkeeper Petra Brncova finished with three saves as the Stars defense limited Saint Mary's opportunities in the second half.
With the draw, Stephens moves to 0-3-1 on the season. The Stars will return to action this Saturday, September 6th, back at home against Blackburn College. Kick-off is schedued for 7:00pm.
