Stephens College volleyball wrapped up its day at the Ottawa Tournament with a three-set setback to Ottawa University on Friday evening inside Wilson Field House. The Braves claimed the match by set scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-16.
The Stars battled in a competitive first set, trading points throughout before Ottawa pulled away late to secure the 25-22 win. The Braves carried momentum into the second and third sets, using efficient hitting and timely runs to close out the match.
Makenna Bollinger paced the Stars with 10 kills on 28 swings while adding six digs. Lena Hunziker chipped in seven kills, and Amari Branch-Autman finished with five kills and a team-high seven points overall. Michalina Oles added four kills, and Fernanda Izar posted three kills and two block assists.
Setter Emma Whitson directed the offense with 21 assists and contributed 11 digs, recording her second double-double of the season. Libero Kiley Smetzer led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while Lilah Gardner and Whitson combined for 14 more from the back row.
As a team, Stephens tallied 28 kills and 52 digs. Ottawa countered with 33 kills on a .279 hitting percentage.
The Stars continue play in Lawrence, Kansas, tomorrow, Saturday, September 6th, against Haskell Indian Nations University at 2:00pm.Â
