Game One: Stars 1, Eagles 16
Stephens College dropped a 16-1 decision to Central Methodist on Thursday afternoon at American Legion.
Central Methodist broke through in the second inning, scoring two runs on a sacrifice fly and a groundout to take an early lead. They added two more in the third, highlighted by a two-run home run, extending the margin to 4-0.
Stephens put together one of its better offensive chances in the second inning, as Skylar Jacobs and Kyndal Vincent recorded back-to-back singles, but the Stars were unable to bring a run across.
The game shifted in the fifth inning when Central Methodist erupted for 12 runs on eight hits, taking advantage of multiple errors and timely extra-base hits to stretch the lead.
Stephens answered in the bottom of the fifth to avoid the shutout. Morgan Ulrich and Carly Baker each singled to put runners on, and Hailey Ebert drove in a run on a groundout to make it 16-1.
Ulrich, Baker, Jacobs, and Vincent accounted for Stephens' four hits in the game.
Elise Kendrick got the start in the circle, allowing four runs over four innings while taking the loss. Katie Dennis and Savannah Greathouse also saw time in relief.
Game Two: Stars 0, Eagles 13
Stephens College fell 13-0 to Central Methodist in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader at American Legion.
Central Methodist set the tone early, scoring three runs in the first inning behind a solo home run and capitalizing on defensive miscues. The Eagles added four more in the second to extend the lead to 7-0.
Stephens had limited opportunities offensively but found a spark in the third inning when Morgan Ulrich singled to left field. Skylar Jacobs also recorded a hit in the first inning, accounting for the Stars' two hits in the game.
Central Methodist continued to build its lead with four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, using timely hitting and taking advantage of errors to create separation.
Leanna Mitts got the start in the circle for Stephens, while Abby Schmidt provided relief in the later innings.
