Stars Drop Two Against the Patriots

Springfield, MO - Stephens dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader against Mission, falling 6-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two.

Game One – Stars 2, Patriots 2

Stephens took an early lead but couldn't hold off a big inning from Mission in a 6-2 loss.

Mission struck first in the opening inning, but the Stars answered in the third. Kyndal Vincent doubled and Celeste Athon reached base to set up a two-RBI single from Mylee Hawkins, giving Stephens a 2-1 advantage.

The lead was short-lived as Mission responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game. The Stars were unable to generate additional offense the rest of the way, finishing with five hits. Vincent, Hawkins, AJ Thurston, Leanna Mitts, and Athon each recorded a hit.

Katie Dennis went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs (five earned) on 11 hits while striking out two.

Game Two – Stars 3, Patriots 4

Stephens rallied late but came up just short in a 4-3 loss in game two.

Mission built a 2-0 lead in the second inning before Stephens got on the board in the fourth. Landry Bales tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Addi Flores to cut the deficit to one.

Mission added another run in the fourth to extend its lead to 3-1, and the Stars trailed heading into the final inning. In the seventh, Stephens mounted a rally as Bales delivered an RBI single and Flores followed with a two-run double to tie the game at 3-3.

Mission answered in the bottom half of the inning with a walk-off run to secure the win.

Stephens totaled nine hits in the game, with Bales and Flores each driving in runs while Mylee Hawkins added two hits.

Stephens moves to 9-27 on the season following the doubleheader.
