Stephens Shuts Out Greenville, 1-0

Columbia, MO – Stephens College soccer picked up its third win of the season Wednesday evening, defeating Greenville University 1-0 at Battle High School.

The Stars wasted little time getting on the board, as Amaura Austell found the back of the net just 3:20 into the match. The early goal proved to be all Stephens needed, as the Stars controlled the match on both ends of the field.

Stephens kept the pressure on throughout the opening half, firing 11 shots and earning four corner kicks before the break. Carsyn Osborn, Addie Butler and Eastin Colyer each put early attempts on frame as the Stars carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime.

The Stars continued to create opportunities in the second half, adding five more shots and five corner kicks. Austell nearly added another goal in the 57th minute, while Pixie Willis and Ava Leininger also put shots on frame later in the half.

Stephens finished the night with a commanding 16-0 advantage in shots, including a 9-0 edge in shots on goal, while also holding a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Austell led the Stars with three shots and two on goal, while Colyer added three attempts with two on frame.

Defensively, Stephens held Greenville without a single shot over the full 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Petra Brncova earned the clean sheet as the Stars' back line kept Greenville from generating an attempt throughout the match.

The Stars will take a week-long break from competition before returning to action in Fulton, Missouri, where they will take on another NCAA Westminster College (MO) on Wednesday, September 23rd at 6:00pm.
