Andre Bell returns for his fifth season at the helm of Stephens College's women's basketball program.
In the past 2023-24 season, Bell led the Stars basketball program to a record-breaking year. They became the American Midwest Conference regular season champions and earned their first-ever ticket to the first and second rounds of the NAIA National Tournament.
Bell was named Coach of the Year for the AMC during the 2023-24 season. Under his leadership, the Stars basketball team received votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll throughout the season. The team finished off the year with a record of 23-8.
During his first year at Stephens in 2020, the team finished with an 8-18 overall record and a 4-14 AMC record. Three different Stars earned postseason recognition.
Bell came to Stephens after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Tennessee Tech University.
A native of Chicago, Bell began his playing career at Wilbur Wright College before transferring to Bemidji State University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports management.
Bell's coaching career started in 2008 when he joined the coaching staff at Trinity Valley Community College. On staff from 2008-12, the Cardinals posted a 91-37 record. During the 2010-11 season, the Cardinals captured a conference title and finished with a ninth national ranking in the NJCAA.
In his first stretch at Moberly Area Community College, Bell served as an assistant coach from 2012-14, helping lead the Mustangs to back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Region 16 Conference.
Bell then moved to Chicago and took over as the assistant varsity boys basketball coach at St. Rita High School for two seasons (2014-16). In his first season there, the Mustangs won a Catholic League Conference title and an IHSA regional championship, posting a 26-4 record.
After two seasons at St. Rita, Bell moved back to Moberly as an associate head coach and recruiting coordinator from 2016-19. During that time, the Greyhounds won three straight MCCAC titles and Region 16 conference championships. In his last season there, the Greyhounds went 28-7, won the Region 16 tournament, then the District 4 championship, and finished with an appearance in the NJCAA Sweet 16.
Bell resides in Columbia with Lorraine Rice and their children Andre Jr., Josiah, Jayla, Sienna, and Keandre.
