Sammy Cavlovich enters her first season as Stephens assistant basketball coach in 2019-20.
Prior to serving as a graduate assistant in the Columbia (Mo.) sports information office from 2017-19, Cavlovich played guard for three seasons (2014-17) on the Cougars women's basketball team, guiding the program to a 75-24 overall record, 55-17 mark in the AMC, two National Championship first round appearances and a pair of final Top 25 rankings, including a No. 3 ranking in Feb. 2016, during that stretch. In 53 career games, she totaled 138 points, 37 rebounds, 19 assists, and eight steals.
Off the court, in all three seasons, Cavlovich was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete and to the Academic All-AMC squad, Dean's List and Honor Roll. As a sophomore, she earned Columbia's Lucinda Van Meter Haynie Memorial Scholarship, recognizing an outstanding business student. As a junior, Cavlovich garnered the school's Class of 1949 Scholarship, given to a returning student based on academic achievement. She was a member of Sigma Beta Delta, a scholastic honor society that recognizes academic achievement among students in the fields of business, management and administration.
Cavlovich joined Columbia after spending the 2013-14 season as a guard at Dominican (Ill.), a NCAA Division III school, where she appeared in 16 games and competed against Joshua Steffen's Concordia Chicago (Ill.) squad when both were at schools in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
From Columbia, Cavlovich graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration in 2017 and earned a Master of Arts in teaching in 2019.
The Florissant, Mo., native attended Incarnate Word Academy (IWA) and as a senior led the Red Knights to a 31-0 record, Class 4 state championship and top five national ranking by multiple outlets. Cavlovich was teammates with numerous NCAA Division I signees, including guard Napheesa Collier, a consensus All-American and national champion at Connecticut and sixth-overall pick by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2019 WNBA Draft.
Cavlovich, as part of the IWA girls basketball program, was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 alongside former coach Dan Rolfes.
