    Assistant Coach

Shay Evans is a Stars women’s basketball veteran entering her first year as an assistant coach at Stephens College and as Residential Advisor for housing. Before becoming a Stephens Woman, Evans started her collegiate journey at Lindenwood University-Belleville in Belleville, Illinois where she competed for three years. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science, specializing in Elementary Education. Upon obtaining her Bachelors, she plans to obtain her master’s degree at the University of Missouri.

“When I first met Coach Bell over zoom, I could feel his love, passion, and adrenalin for the game, for winning, and for the people he surrounds himself with. It didn’t take long to figure out that joining his staff at Stephens was what was best for me. Since the day I met him, he has always said, ‘Why not us?’ That is the confidence and ‘go getter’ mentality that I look up to.” says Coach Shay.

Evans was born and raised in Scottsboro, Alabama where she attended, played varsity basketball, and graduated from Scottsboro High School in 2017. In 2017, her team finished 2nd in the area tournament, and made it to the second round of playoffs. In 2015, she played for the Madison County All-Stars AAU team where they finished 5th in the National Tournament and 9th in the country.

During the summer, Evans runs a tutoring program for younger kids, small group basketball lessons for all ages, and also spends time on the lake with her family. Although Evans resides in Alabama, she plans to permanently become part of the COMO family. “I am extremely excited to keep Shay, but even more happy to have her in a leadership role as an assistant coach for me. Shay wants to be in the business of coaching, she understands what it means to work hard, and she relates to the players. We are excited for Coach Shay’s new role!” says Coach Bell.
