Joe Henderson enters his first season as a Stephens assistant softball coach in 2020. He is also the head girls softball coach at Battle (Mo.) High School, a program he launched in 2013.
Henderson completed his seventh season at the helm of Battle in the fall of 2019.
Henderson spent four seasons (2015-18) as the head coach at NCAA Division III Westminster (Mo.). He is the winningest coach in school history, having guided the Blue Jays to an 81-68 overall record and 55-18 mark in the SLIAC during his tenure. In 2017 and 2018, Henderson won a SLIAC championship and was named the conference's Coach of the Year. In four seasons, Henderson coached 28 All-SLIAC performers, two SLIAC Players of the Year, two SLIAC Pitchers of the Year, two SLIAC Newcomers of the Year, seven NFCA All-Midwest Region members and one NFCA All-American.
During Henderson's four seasons, 12 Blue Jays were named Academic All-SLIAC, 21 were tabbed Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes and one was named a Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District member.
Henderson spent three seasons (2011-13) as an assistant coach at Columbia (Mo.). He helped guide the Cougars to a 78-53 overall record and 38-10 mark in the AMC. In Henderson's second season with the Cougars, the team's batting average increased by 80 percentage points. In 2011, the Cougars finished No. 22 in the nation. In three seasons, Henderson helped coach 16 All-AMC performers, one AMC Player of the Year, one AMC Newcomer of the Year, three NFCA All- Region members and one All-American.
During Henderson's three seasons, one Cougar was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, and seven were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Henderson spent the 2010 season as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Lincoln (Mo.).
Henderson spent 11 seasons at Rock Bridge (Mo.) High School, the first seven (1998-05) as an assistant coach and the last four (2006-09) as the head coach.
Henderson played shortstop in for the All-Navy Team, an opportunity for Sailors to compete at the highest level in the Armed Forces, which led to a tryout with the Kansas City Royals in 1979.
Henderson spent 11 years (1975-86) in the Navy and 30 years as a regional director in the United States Department of the Interior.
Henderson earned a Bachelor of Arts in business management from Valdosta State (Ga.).
Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Palm Desert, Calif., Henderson attended Indio High School.
Henderson has resided in Columbia, Mo., since 1998. He and his wife, Linda, have four children - Rachel, Erik, Joseph Jr. and Kayla - and 12 grandchildren.
