Walnut Ridge, AR - The Stephens Stars traveled to Walnut Ridge, AR to take on the Eagles of Williams Baptist University. A close contest, the Stars were able to earn the 3-0 sweep over the Eagles to secure their first AMC victory of the season. This win over Williams Baptist University marks the first time in 11 years that Stephens has bested the Eagles. Further, the win marks the highest win total for the Stars in the last five seasons.
The Stars got out to a 12-10 lead off of tough serving from
Isabelle Benson. Up 23-20, a kill from
Isabelle Marquier followed by a kill from Benson gave the Stars the first set 25-22.
The second set saw the Stars jump out to an 11-6 lead. The Stars and Eagles exchanged points from there with the Eagles taking a 21-19 lead. Out of a Stephens timeout, a kill from
McKenzi Domescik-Rink followed by a block by Marquier tied the score 21-21 before a kill from WBU stopped the Stars' run. Another kill from Domescik-Rink followed by an Eagles error put Stephens up 23-22 before kills from Benson and
Mallory Polk closed out the second set for the Stars, 25-22.
In the third set, the Stars and Eagles traded points early on until a key serving run from Lee Lawson put the Stars up 12-10. More tough serving from the Stars pushed their lead to 20-16. A 4-2 run by the Eagles saw the Stars go up 22-20. A kill from Benson combined with another Eagles attacking error put the Stars at match point, 24-21. One last kill from Domescik-Rink earned the Stars the third and final set, 25-21.
