Thursday nights seem to be the Stephens Stars favorite night to be playing basketball at Silverthorne Arena. Coming off a tough loss the weekend prior, the Stars were looking to get back on their train ride to the playoffs in their rematch against Harris-Stowe State University.Â
The game plan from the get-go was to outwit, outlast, and outplay the Lady Hornets. The Stars came out hot, going on a 20-4 run in the first 8 minutes of the game with Arthel Massaquoi being a dominant force in the paint and Brooke Peters finding her stroke, going 2/3 from deep in the quarter. Tashawn Ducker, Zaraya March, and Allison Moore all got on the score sheet by firing from 22 feet from the basket and sinking them.Â
Stephens College second quarter slowed, but kept steady, outscoring Harris-Stowe 13-7 with March leading the way. Stephens Stars enter halftime up 36 to 14.Â
Harris-Stowe came out with a bit more energy at the start of the third quarter by attacking the paint and drawing fouls to earn trips to the free-throw line. Marveen Ross wasn't allowing any more nonsense in the paint, with a, come from behind, SWAT. Harris-Stowe outscored the Stars 15-12 in the third, however, they were still down 48-29.
Entering the fourth quarter, the Stars were still looking to shine. From the top to the bottom, Coach Bell was involving everyone on his roster in this game. The Stars shot 4-7 from three-point land, blowing the game wide open and ending this rematch, 69-41, earning the season sweep over Harris-Stowe State University for the first time in 15 years.Â
Stephens College takes on Columba College this Saturday at 1:00 PM in the Cougar building for their regular season rematch.Â
