Stephens College took the short road trip to Hannibal, Missouri Thursday afternoon to take on Hannibal-LaGrange University for the last game of January. Coming off the weekend loss against Columbia College, the Stars were prepared to get back to their winning ways.Â
Coach Bell went with a fast and energetic starting five that put pressure on the Trojan backcourt, forcing eight turnovers on HLGU. Alayasia Douglas controlled the quarter is her quick dribbles and swift first step. The Trojans had to respect Douglas' drives, which led to Celeste Athon and Allison Moore hitting wide open three pointers. The Stars went on a 21-6 run after ten minutes of play.Â
The second quarter scoring run didn't stop, however, credit to Hannibal-LaGrange for continuing to keep the pace of the game up. The Stars had to keep the foot on the gas to make sure there wasn't going to be a any type of comeback. Stars took their lead into half time, up 43-23.Â
Tonight, scoring was not a problem for Alayasia Douglas, scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds in 26 minutes. She earned herself her first double-double of the season and was the Stars leader tonight. With Alayasia being able to get to her spots, this allowed 8 other Star players to get on the score sheet.Â
By the fourth quarter, Stephens exhausted the Trojans, holding them to 3-13 shooting and only 8 total points. The Stars claimed the victory here, 78-46, moving to 13-6 overall and 8-5 within the AMC conference.Â
The Stars get the weekend off and will head to Fulton, Missouri next Thursday to play William Woods University, whom they beat in December, 75-62.Â
