Late Thursday afternoon, Stephens College took the short drive to Fulton, Missouri to take on William Woods University in a season rematch where the Stars won 75-62 in their first match-up.Â
As for round two, nothing was going to come easy for Stephens. The Stars are sitting fourth in the AMC standings as of last night, but teams are starting to circle the calendar when the rising Stars come to visit. Both teams came out with energy and physicality, with what felt like the whistle being blown a few times every minute. With a total of fifty-three fouls in forty minutes of play, this game was won off of who can get to the charity stripe more. The three pointer wasn't falling for the Stars, so they looked to Marveen Ross and Allison Moore to be the driving force in the paint.Â
After the first half, the Stephens College trailed by four. The Stars, full court pressing as much as they could, forced twenty-two turnovers from the Lady Owls and scored twenty points off the turnovers. When looking back at this game, the Stars will feel like they should have put William Woods away early as their were some mental mistakes that could have been easily avoided. The key factor is the Stars getting to the free throw line forty-two times and Ross going 11/13 from the line. Helping along the way was Allison Moore going 8/8 from the stripe and Tashawn Ducker, with some big energy since coming into the starting line-up, went 6/7 in her free throw attempts.Â
The win wasn't easy, but this keeps the Stars within the top four of the conference and they are hoping to keep this winning momentum when they go up against Lyon, Saturday at 1:00 PM in Batesville, Arkansas.Â
