Columbia, MO. - The Stars hosted number 7 ranked Missouri Baptist University Spartans on Thursday night for a conference showdown and lost a contested battle 0-3 (22-25, 15-25, 22-25).
Set one began with a kill down the line from Stars middle hitter
Jamie Russell who was attacking from the right side of the Stars offense. The atmosphere in Silverthorne was electric all night and in set two erupted after a double block by
Lena Hunziker and Russell. Later in the set, Silverthorne erupted again after a monster kill from
Isabelle Benson that put the Stars into the lead late in the game. The Star's valiant effort was not enough as the Spartans took the first set (22-25).
Set two had rallies back and forth from both teams as they fought hard to take the lead.
Genevieve Nickelson was able to ace the Spartans back-to-back after a Head Coach
Trevor Koelling timeout. However, a powerful nationally ranked Missouri Baptist team went on a run that ended 15-25 in the Spartan's favor.
The final set brought more excitement to Silverthorne Arena as Hunziker aced the Spartans once more to set the tone for a Stars comeback attempt. A back-and-forth exchange of points between the two teams ensued and a solo block from Russell locked the score at 22-22. Despite the energy from the crowd and the high-level play from the Stars, the powerful Missouri Baptist offense was able to finish off the final set 22-25.
The Stars return to play for their final home match of the regular season this Tuesday, October 17
th at 6 p.m. to recognize their seniors for their final season at Silverthorne Arena.
