The Stars took on Iowa Wesleyan Tigers in a doubleheader match-up in hopes of boosting confidence and morale within the team.
Elise Kendrick earned her first start for her Star career and threw a complete game, striking out ten. The control and velocity were apparent when she took the mound, however, the Tigers broke the game open in the sixth and seventh innings scoring five in each.Â
In game two, we saw a more focused and mentally ready team trying to earn the win. Gillian Hale got the nod to take the mound, after coming off a tough loss in her previous start, she was determined to find the strike zone and shut the Tigers down. The Stars dealt with a rocky start in the first inning, giving up a leadoff homerun and three additional runs. From there, the Stars dominated on the offensive and defensive side of the plate, while only allowing one hit for the rest of the game and no runs. The Stars found their way in the 4th inning by putting the ball in play and making the Tigers work. When they say softball is 10% physical and 90% mental, it showed when Head Coach, Emily Kingsolver, told her runner to wait at second base when the Tigers thought they had three outs and all left the field. From there, the runners took off and inevitably scored. In the fifth inning, Elise Kendrick, Ellie Kliethermes, Mia Adriano, and Mariah Thibodeau were pinging the ball off the bat. The Stars scored three in the fourth and fifth inning, while Hale threw a complete game to earn the squad a 6-4 victory moving them to 3-7 on the year.Â
