Stars Rally, Fall to Walk-off Against Lyon

Stephens Stars wrapped up their week of travels by heading to Batesville, Arkansas to take on Lyon College.

The Scots and Stars were looking for their first league wins of the season in hopes of climbing up in the rankings.

Gillian Hale took to the rubber in game one of the doubleheaders, striking out five and allowing two earned runs in two innings. Her pitching partner, Grace Tath, came in for relief and threw four innings allowing three earned runs, and also struck out five. The Stars were hoping to keep their batting momentum after scoring 30 runs in their last two games, however, Lyon held the Stars three hits. The Lyon defense was shaking all afternoon, committing three errors which allowed the Stars to take full advantage of and scored three runs. The Stars couldn't find those last two runs and fell 5-3.

In game two, Elise Kendrick received the nod to start, throwing six and two-thirds innings in a back-and-forth duel with Lyon. The Stars were down 5-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning and needed to find their rally caps! With that said, the bat on the ball really shaped that last inning as the Stars were able to score four, taking the lead by a run heading into the bottom of the inning. With two outs to go in the bottom of the inning, Lyon was able to get shallow fly balls in spots where the fielders weren't. On the last play of the game, we saw Lydia Yeager make a diving effort trying to end the match, but the ball just fell under her glove and Lyon was able to score two, winning the game 7-6.

The Stars are looking to bounce back on Tuesday, taking on Hannibal LaGrange at 2 PM and 4 PM.
