On one of the windier days in the 2023 season, the Stars traveled to Hannibal, Missouri to battle against Hannibal-LaGrange University.
Elise Kendrick was the starting pitcher for the Stars in a crucial league game in hopes of getting Stephens in the winner's column. As usual, the Stars got on the scoreboard early, taking a 1-0 lead off a
Gillian Hale single to left field, scoring
Avery Throckmorton. From there, the Stars never looked back. In her first home run of the season,
Avery Throckmorton hit a bomb over the left field wall in one of her three hits (2B, 3B, HR), just missing out on hitting for the cycle. With the Stars raking in sixteen hits, they were able to put eight runs on the board. This cushion of a lead allowed
Elise Kendrick to be free on the mound, striking out six with no walks. Luckily, the Stars had plenty of insurance runs because we saw a little resurgence from the Lady Trojans in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late. Stephens College achieved its first league win of the season, winning 8-4.
As game two was set to begin, the rain and thunder started which inevitably caused game two to be postponed to a later date.
The Stars will take on the University of Health & Sciences this Friday at 2 PM & 4 PM.
