Columbia, Mo. – Stephens College (2-7-2, 1-2 AMC) couldn't overcome a barrage of shots from Missouri Baptist (4-7, 2-0 AMC) on Student and Faculty Appreciation Day, falling 2-4 in an AMC contest on Saturday afternoon at Battle High School.
Throughout the match, the Spartans dominated statistically, racking up 34 shots, with half of them on target, compared to Stephens' 5 shots and 4 on goal.
Stephens opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Kayln Apodaca netted her second goal of the season off an assist from Lourdes Rochas-Dias.
Missouri Baptist quickly responded, leveling the match in the 21st minute, and adding another just minutes later to give the Spartans a 1-2 lead going into halftime.
Stephens battled back in the second half, equalizing in the 51st minute through Carsyn Osborn, who finished from close range after a well-timed cross from Dafne Gonzalez. However, Missouri Baptist regained the lead in the 64th minute. The Spartans sealed the win with a goal in the 70th minute to finish the game.
Stephens goalkeeper Sofia Ramos put in a strong performance with eight saves, facing a relentless 34-shot attack from Missouri Baptist. The Stars, however, managed just five shots, with Apodaca and Osborn's goals serving as the highlights.
The Stars will look to bounce back in their next match on October 15, when they travel to St. Louis to face University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Creve Coeur Park. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
