Stephens College Falls 1-2 to William Woods on Senior Night

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Stephens College soccer team (2-9-2, 1-4 AMC) came up just short in a 1-2 loss to William Woods University (7-5-3, 3-1 AMC) on Friday night at Battle High School. The Stars celebrated Senior Night, honoring Amanda Coppeti, Sydney Castelli, and Grace Houchin for their dedication to the program.

William Woods opened the scoring in the 20th minute with an own goal from Stephens and added another in the 36th minute.

Stephens fought hard to mount a comeback in the second half, with senior goalkeeper Houchin making 12 saves to keep the Stars in the match.

The Stars finally broke through in the 85th minute when Kylee Kratzer netted a goal to cut the deficit to 1-2. Despite a late push, including a shot on goal by Dafne Gonzalez in the final minute, the Stars couldn't find the equalizer.

The Stars return to action on Tuesday, October 22, at 7 p.m. for High School & Club Night against crosstown rivals Columbia College. Any high school or club player who wears their jersey will receive free admission to the match.

The Stars will play their final home match of the season on Tuesday, November 22, as they welcome the No. 10-ranked Columbia College Cougars, their nearby rivals. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Battle High School. This night will also be High School and Club Night—fans wearing their high school or club soccer jerseys will receive free admission.
