SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- Stephens College extended their winning streak with a sweep over Mission University (25-20, 25-13, 25-17) on Wednesday night at W.E. Dowel Fieldhouse. The Stars improved to 13-15 overall and 8-2 in conference play, while senior Izzy Benson delivered her 102nd career service ace, tying the program record.
The Stars set the tone in the first set with an early kill by Amari Branch-Autman, assisted by Emma Whitson.Â
Branch-Autman continued her strong performance with a .579 hitting percentage and a total of 12 kills.Â
Midway through the set, Jamie Russell added back-to-back kills, giving Stephens the lead, which was further cemented by a series of aces from Russell. Stephens took the first set 25-20 after Russell's final ace.Â
In the second set, Stephens dominated from the start, with Benson firing her record-tying ace to give the Stars a 9-4 lead.Â
Russell and Branch-Autman combined for blocks that stifled Mission's offense, while Whitson orchestrated the attack with 24 assists.Â
A final kill from Makenna Bollinger sealed the set at 25-13, with Stephens holding Mission to a negative hitting percentage.
The third set saw Mission attempt a rally, but the Stars responded with a strong serving game, including aces from Tatum Frank and Jatnna Pena-Perez.Â
Branch-Autman and Benson contributed crucial kills that kept the Stars in control, while Russell closed the match with a powerful kill to secure the sweep 25-17.
Stephens will conclude the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9, traveling to Conway, Ark., to take on Central Baptist College at 3 p.m.Â
