Stephens Falls Short, 50-59, Against #21 Carroll College

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Despite a strong start, the Stephens College Stars couldn't maintain their momentum, falling 50-59 to #21 Carroll College on Friday evening in the second game of the Cactus Classic.

The Stars (6-6, 3-3 AMC) were led by LaiJanique Perry-Ellis, who scored a game-high 20 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Taylor Norris contributed 13 points, including two three-pointers, while Syderah Farmer added six points and two rebounds.

Stephens opened the game on a high note, outscoring Carroll 21-11 in the first quarter.

Norris connected on a three-pointer, while Perry-Ellis contributed seven points, highlighted by a fast-break layup following a defensive rebound.

Syderah Farmer capped the quarter with a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give the Stars a 10-point lead.

The Stars struggled to find their rhythm in the second quarter, managing just eight points. Carroll capitalized with a balanced attack, cutting Stephens' lead to 29-23 at halftime.

The Saints came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring Stephens 16-8. Despite a layup by KaLynn Irey and a jumper from Perry-Ellis, the Stars entered the fourth quarter trailing 39-37.

In the final quarter, Carroll pulled away with a 20-13 advantage. The Saints hit back-to-back three-pointers to push their lead to nine points, their largest of the game.

Norris and Farmer each contributed late baskets, but the Stars couldn't overcome the deficit.
